How to Choose the Right Corrugated Shipping Box: A Practical Buyer's Guide
A practical guide from Shenzhen Fuda Packaging on selecting corrugated shipping boxes — flute types, burst strength, sizing and customization for safe, cost-effective delivery.
The corrugated carton is the most common packaging form for cross-border shipping and e-commerce fulfillment. Choosing the right box protects goods, reduces damage rates, and optimizes freight and storage costs.
First, choose the flute. Common A, B, C and E flutes each serve a purpose: A-flute offers the best cushioning for heavy items; B-flute has high compression and a smooth printing surface; C-flute balances performance and is the mainstream for shipping boxes; E-flute is thinner and ideal for fine color boxes and gift boxes.
Second, check the strength. Burst strength and Edge Crush Test (ECT) determine whether a box survives stacking and compression. For heavy goods or long ocean freight, choose a double-wall structure; single-wall is enough for light parcels.
Third, sizing and fill rate. An oversized box adds void fill and shipping cost; an undersized box crushes the product. Measure your item, leave a 2–3 cm buffer, and maximize the fill rate to lower per-unit logistics cost.
Fourth, customize as needed. Shenzhen Fuda Packaging supplies water-resistant paperboard, anti-static packaging, plus integrated custom solutions — color boxes, gift boxes, paper handle bags, paper bags and brochures — with low-MOQ sampling and worldwide delivery.
